These distortions filter our view rather than letting us see ourselves and others as we genuinely are.  \nReparative interventions can allow the opportunity for insight and connection rather than confusion and reactivity. Repatterning emotional habits and calming our reactivity can clarify our awareness.  \nBy challenging distorted assumptions and training the mind to expand its scope of awareness\, we can refine the mind’s precision to reach beyond the limiting ways we perceive. SUMMARY:The Chemistry of Connection (In-person)
DESCRIPTION:The Chemistry of Connection\n(Tara Bennett-Goleman & Daniel Goleman with Aaron Wolf) \nLearn how our emotional habits can connect us or keep us at a distance — from ourselves and each other. In this combination of lecture\, discussion and experiential exercises we’ll integrate an original synthesis of the neuroscience of connection with methods for enhancing relations\, whether inner or interpersonal. A map of emotional habits and attachment modes illuminates relationships of all kinds\, transforming emotional patterns that separate into ones that connect\, enhancing a more genuine interconnection with ourselves and each other\, or with the world at large. Now more than ever we need to work to resolve our differences by acknowledging the shared attunement that facilitates empathy and understanding\, while not insisting the other person agree with us. Guests are welcome to bring their lunch or go to a nearby restaurant. \n— \nTara Bennett-Goleman M.A.\, is the author of the NY Times best-seller Emotional Alchemy and of Mind Whispering. An educator and psychotherapist\, she brings practices and perspectives from Eastern and Western psychologies to repattern modes that separate into patterns that connect. \nDaniel Goleman\, Ph.D.\, is a science journalist best known for his books on emotional intelligence and on meditation. In these workshops he tours us through relevant neuroscience\, looking at how the brain can repattern habits\, and how the brain’s circuitry for social connection can lead to increase closeness. \nAaron Wolf \, Ph.D.\, is a water resources geographer at Oregon State University who co-directs the Program in Water Conflict Management and Transformation. Author of The Spirit of Dialogue\, he offers lessons from his work around the world bringing together groups ordinarily at odds but who need to cooperate in managing shared bodies of water\, to find an underlying connection. \n

DESCRIPTION:John Baker trained directly with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche for decades\, and worked intimately with Trungpa as he adapted Tibetan meditation to a western audience. In this online course\, Path of Awakening\, John will help to distill some of the unique insights of his teacher as well as his own\, unique take on meditation. \nThis ongoing online meditation class is for anyone interested in Buddhism and open to anyone. It starts with 30 minutes of meditation followed by a class and discussion.
