SUMMARY:The Art of Spiritual Transformation (Workshop One: The Art of Inner Freedom)
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Spiritual Transformation \nIn January\, February and March of 2023 you are invited to join Jeff Carreira for three experiential explorations in the art of spiritual transformation. These workshops will be held live at The Aligned Center and there is also the option to attend virtually via Zoom Video Conferencing. Each workshop will include spiritual guidance and instruction\, practices and exercises\, as well as discussion and dialog. \nIn these workshops Jeff intends to share a comprehensive introduction to everything that he has found that allows a person to release themselves from negative tendencies and live a spiritually awakened life free from the constricting influence of fear. \nWorkshop One: The Art of Inner Freedom \nIn the first workshop we will explore the positive power of letting go. As long as we remain reactive to the repeating patterns of thought and feeling that our mind cycles through\, we will never be able to experience the joy of deeper spiritual growth. When we learn to rest in the non-reactive peace of pure awareness we discover our true self. Our true self is not intimidated by thoughts and feelings. It is always alert and ready to respond wholeheartedly to any circumstance. In this workshop you will discover how by living from this powerful center you can enter the path of deep transformation. \nThis is an in-person and online event. \nCost: $30 Online – $50 Per Workshop – $150 All Three Workshops \nRegister: Here

SUMMARY:Four Golden Wheels: Qigong for Vitality\, Love\, and Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:There are three centers that hold vast amounts of Qi energy deep inside your body. These three energy centers regulate your capacity for wisdom\, love\, and vitality. The relative strength of these qualities determines your energy type. In most of us\, one of these centers tends to be stronger than the other two and one center tends to be weaker than the other two. This energetic imbalance manifests as an imbalance in daily life since Qi and life reflect each other. In this class we’ll explore each center and begin to get familiar with harmonizing the flow of each to tap our own well spring of inner joy and happiness. * The class will finish with a powerful group healing. \nThis is an in-person event. \nCost: $69.99\nRegister: Here

SUMMARY:Eight Cycles: Harmony Qigong to Flow Like Water
DESCRIPTION:When we experience chronic stress the body tightens and blockages form. These obstructions reduce the amount of Qi flow. The fresh mountain stream becomes a series of stagnant ponds of murky Qi. The internal organs are deprived of vitality and they weaken. Symptoms appear and eventually diseases form. In this class\, we’ll use gentle Qigong movement to chip away at the blockages and reinvigorate the flow of Qi energy. As the obstructions disappear symptoms go away and youthful vitality is regained. * The class will finish with a powerful group healing.  \nThis is an in-person event. \nCost: $69.99 \nRegister: Here

The other way involves using imaginative practices to shift your perspective into an awakened view on the experience you’re already having. In this workshop you will explore and practice both of these ways of inviting spiritual breakthroughs. \nThis is an in-person and online event. \nCost: $30 Online – $50 Per Workshop – $150 All Three Workshops \nRegister: Here

SUMMARY:One-Day Meditation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join the Westchester Meditation Center for this special one-day program designed for beginning and aspiring meditators\, as well as people who want to deepen their meditation practice. The workshop will include talks\, practice sessions\, and guided meditations that support building a daily practice with compassion and openness. This workshop will be led by one of WMC’s three senior teachers\, Jane Kolleeny. \nWMC is dedicated to diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and fostering belonging for all. Everyone is invited. Differences and unique perspectives are embraced. \nThe meditation technique taught in this workshop was developed by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche (1939-87)\, a Tibetan Buddhist meditation teacher who offered a uniquely different form from other forms of meditation and in many ways contrary to the usual notions about meditation. His view was that “meditation is a process of working through our self-deception.” Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche was a highly accomplished meditation master\, scholar\, translator\, poet\, and artist. He taught extensively in North America during the last seventeen years of his life and authored dozens of books based on hundreds of talks given on a broad array of topics. Many people of many generations have found his guidance inspiring to their daily lives and meditation practice. \nIf you have any questions\, please email westchestermeditationcenter@gmail.com. \nSuggested Donation: $30 (includes lunch) \nSpace is limited; registration is required. \nRegister: HERE

SUMMARY:How the Mind Can Heal the Heart (In-person)
DESCRIPTION:How the Mind Can Heal the Heart\n(Tara Bennett-Goleman & Daniel Goleman)\n \nExplore a transformative map of distorted perceptions and symbolic meaning hidden within emotional and cognitive patterns like perfectionism and self-sacrifice. These distortions filter our view rather than letting us see ourselves and others as we genuinely are.  \nReparative interventions can allow the opportunity for insight and connection rather than confusion and reactivity. Repatterning emotional habits and calming our reactivity can clarify our awareness.  \nBy challenging distorted assumptions and training the mind to expand its scope of awareness\, we can refine the mind’s precision to reach beyond the limiting ways we perceive. We can see ourselves as we genuinely are instead of through these distorting filters.   \nApplying principles & practices from Emotional Alchemy\, cognitive neuroscience and neuroplasticity\, emotional intelligence\, and an expanded awareness can awaken the part of the mind that sees more clearly and increase empathic understanding as a default mode  \n Based on Tara Bennett-Goleman’s book Emotional Alchemy and Daniel Goleman’s work on emotional intelligence\, this approach integrates methods from East and West that can help relationships of all kinds\, from partnerships\, to family and friends\, to the workplace\, and in leadership.  Coaches\, therapists – anyone interested in transforming emotions might be interested in this innovative integration. \nThis is an in-person event. \nDate: Saturday\, September 30\, 2023\nTime: 10am – 5pm*\nLocation: The Aligned Center (1 Bridge Street – Suite 64\, Irvington\, NY 10533)\nPrice: $175 (add tickets for Saturday & Sunday to your cart and save $55 on combo price) \n*There will be a 1.5 hour break for lunch. Guests are welcome to bring their lunch or go to a nearby restaurant. \n— \nTara Bennett-Goleman M.A.\, is the author of the NY Times best-seller Emotional Alchemy and of Mind Whispering. An educator and psychotherapist\, she brings practices and perspectives from Eastern and Western psychologies to repattern modes that separate into patterns that connect. \nDaniel Goleman\, Ph.D.\, is a science journalist best known for his books on emotional intelligence and on meditation. In these workshops he tours us through relevant neuroscience\, looking at how the brain can repattern habits\, and how the brain’s circuitry for social connection can lead to increase closeness. \n

SUMMARY:The Chemistry of Connection (In-person)
DESCRIPTION:The Chemistry of Connection\n(Tara Bennett-Goleman & Daniel Goleman with Aaron Wolf) \nLearn how our emotional habits can connect us or keep us at a distance — from ourselves and each other. In this combination of lecture\, discussion and experiential exercises we’ll integrate an original synthesis of the neuroscience of connection with methods for enhancing relations\, whether inner or interpersonal. A map of emotional habits and attachment modes illuminates relationships of all kinds\, transforming emotional patterns that separate into ones that connect\, enhancing a more genuine interconnection with ourselves and each other\, or with the world at large. Now more than ever we need to work to resolve our differences by acknowledging the shared attunement that facilitates empathy and understanding\, while not insisting the other person agree with us. In this tenth year of our workshop we will explore these connections in several dimensions.   \nThis is an in-person event. \nDate: Sunday\, October 1\, 2023\nTime: 10am – 5pm*\nLocation: The Aligned Center (1 Bridge Street – Suite 64\, Irvington\, NY 10533)\nPrice: $175 (add tickets for Saturday & Sunday to your cart and save $55 on combo price) \n*There will be a 1.5 hour break for lunch. \nAaron Wolf \, Ph.D.\, is a water resources geographer at Oregon State University who co-directs the Program in Water Conflict Management and Transformation. Author of The Spirit of Dialogue\, he offers lessons from his work around the world bringing together groups ordinarily at odds but who need to cooperate in managing shared bodies of water\, to find an underlying connection. \n

SUMMARY:Humbleness and Heroism on the Path of Wakefulness\, The Way of the Bodhisattva
DESCRIPTION:Humbleness and Heroism on the Path of Wakefulness\, The Way of the Bodhisattva \nPlease join the Westchester Meditation Center for this very special event with Venerable Ringu Tulku Rinpoche\, who will speak on Humbleness and Heroism on the Path of Wakefulness\, The Way of the Bodhisattva\, open to all\, but space is limited. \nThe practitioner of Mahayana Buddhism aspires to become a Bodhisattva – one who dedicates their life to the enlightenment of all sentient beings. Pursuing this goal requires the courage and strength to go beyond all personal boundaries and limitations\, and at the same time\, the willingness to constantly put the welfare of others before one’s own. Yet\, sometimes our attempts to balance humbleness and heroism on the path of wakefulness leave us ineffective\, mistaken\, or create more difficulties\, despite our best efforts.  With a genuine understanding of The Way of the Bodhisattva\, the Venerable Ringu Tulku is especially equipped to inspire our awakened hearts and minds and share his wisdom on how we can maintain these qualities in harmony. \nRingu Tulku Rinpoche is a Tibetan Buddhist teacher of the Kagyu lineage. He was trained by many great teachers including H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and Dilgo Khyentse\, Rinpoche. He received his formal education at Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and Sampurnananda Sanskrit University and has served as a Professor of Tibetology in Sikkim for 17 years. Since 1990 Rinpoche has been traveling and teaching Buddhism throughout the world. He has authored many books on Buddhism and founded Bodhicharya\, an organization that coordinates activities to preserve and transmit Buddhist teachings and promote intercultural dialogues and educational projects. See www.bodhicharya.org for more information. \nSuggested Offering $30* \nRegister HERE.

SUMMARY:The Gift of Spiritual Abundance with Jeff Carreira
DESCRIPTION:On this full day retreat you will learn to live according to a new operating system that will transform your life. \nAs a teacher of meditation and spiritual awakening\, Jeff Carreira is often focused on inner transformation\, and after people experience awakening the one question they ask him more than any other is: “How do I live this in my daily life?” \nThis retreat will answer that question. The primary exploration will be about shifting into a life of ongoing fullness\, and satisfaction. This might sound impossible\, but it’s not\, if you learn the secret. You can’t always get what you want\, but you can learn to be satisfied with what you get. \nLiving in abundance is an awakened mindset based on a deep recognition of the inherent wonder of being alive. When you discover the source of inner wholeness you will live in a completely different way. \nOn this retreat you will learn how to live in spiritual abundance so that life unfolds miraculously\, becoming easier and more fulfilling all the time. \nThat doesn’t mean you don’t work hard\, experience pain\, or face adversity. And it doesn’t mean that you never experience fear\, doubt or self-concern. What it means is that you never forget\, even under the most challenging circumstances\, that life is good and as long as you travel the path of your heart it will get better. \nOver the course of the day\, you will receive specific guidance that will shift your perspective out of fear and scarcity\, and into trust and abundance. You will also engage in practices that allow you to experience the energy of fullness\, and contemplations that help you uncover the attitudes\, beliefs\, and expectations that perpetuate unnecessary struggle. \nThis is the first retreat of this type that Jeff has ever offered. We look forward to seeing you there. \nRegister HERE.

SUMMARY:Regenerative Connections™ Series (Workshop 2): Patterns that Connect and Disconnect
DESCRIPTION:Tara Bennett-Goleman and Daniel Goleman Present Patterns that Connect and Disconnect\nSeptember 28 & 29 (tw0-day workshop) \nWe invite you to join us as we explore ways ancient wisdom and modern psychology regenerates connections of all kinds.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur emotional habits can connect us or keep us at a distance from ourselves and others. When these habits activate we react to symbolic threats as though they were real – e.g.\, the fear of abandonment triggers exaggerated fearfulness and thoughts of losing someone. Even if they may not make rational sense\, these patterns have an emotional reality; understanding them can yield insights in our own and others’ vulnerabilities and help us respond with empathy\, understanding\, and caring. \nWhen we believe their skewed messages these habits can shape how we think\, feel\, act and relate. We can become aware of these learned emotional habits and their expression\, such as clinging or avoidance. When they act as invisible lenses\, they distort our view rather than letting us see ourselves and each other as we genuinely are. \nReparative interventions from ancient wisdom traditions and modern psychology can allow for insight and connection rather than confusion and reactivity. \nRegenerative qualities\, including insight\, equanimity and a warm and caring heart\, can lead us to an inner calm and wiser perspective\, even as we sense the signals of these emotional habits. We can embrace underlying unsettling feelings with care\, kindness\, and a non-judgmental awareness that can help to free our minds and hearts. \nIn addition to modern and ancient psychologies we will draw on findings from neuroscience\, in a combination of lecture\, discussion and experiences. \nThese include mapping these learned emotional habits and ways to sense their activation\, calm our reactivity\, and repatterning for healthier responses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Workshop 2 We Will Learn To:\n \n Widen the gap between emotional impulse and action\, to make wiser choices \n Transform emotional patterns that separate into ones that connect \n Increase clarity and empathic understanding \n Allow for transformative insights into our habits of mind and heart. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more and register HERE. \n  \nWorkshop Series Schedule\n \nThe Arts\, Science and Practice of Meditation\nJune 29\, 2024 \nPatterns that Connect and Disconnect\nSeptember 28 and 29 \nWidening the Circle of Caring\nNovember 16 and 17

SUMMARY:Regenerative Connections™ Series (Workshop 3): Widening the Circle of Caring
DESCRIPTION:Tara Bennett-Goleman and Daniel Goleman Present Widening the Circle of Caring\nNovember 16 & 17 (tw0-day workshop) \nWe invite you to join us as we explore ways ancient wisdom and modern psychology regenerates connections of all kinds.\nJust as we fertilize plants in a garden\, we can nurture qualities of awareness and compassion to both enrich our own being and also to benefit others. As findings from social neuroscience tell us\, emotions are contagious. Regenerating inner qualities like warmheartedness\, understanding and calmness can have a soothing influence on those around us. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeeing your emotional patterns at work and bringing them into awareness allows us to be sensitive to recognizing these vulnerabilities in others. These patterns operate at the collective level as well. As we clear emotional and cognitive obscurations we increasingly connect with the minds natural qualities and a genuine sense of interconnection. We will continue to explore how reparative Eastern and Western psychological perspectives and practices can nurture regenerative connections of all kinds.  \nWe’ll share real life cases in point. We’ll hear from our collaborator Aaron Wolf about transformation with groups who disagree but come together to manage a river system. We’ll also share how young changemakers create a sense of trust and belonging -regenerating their connection with each other – while being in service to others. We’ll also hear about our friend and mentor\, the late Dr. Ariyaratne of Sri Lanka\, a model of selfless service who founded Sarvodaya\, an altruistic grassroots community development movement that helps neighbors work together for common goals. \nAs Dr. Ari said\, “We cannot solve one problem independently; everything is interconnected…for this we need to heal the mind\, to transform our thinking”. We will explore regenerative solutions and how we each can contribute our unique ability to act on interests like the environment\,  social concerns\, and simple acts of caring in our everyday lives. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Workshop 3 You Will Learn To:\n \n Build a toolbox of skill ways to being clear\, non-reactive communication to your relationships \n Explore how to engage in difficult conversations\, including ways we ourselves can work more collaboratively \n Use recognition of emotional patterns to relate from a clear space rather than a reactive one \n Communicate more skillfully and authentically\, rather than through the distorted filters of our emotional habits \n Work through differences from a place of connection. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more and register HERE.

SUMMARY:EngageAsia Presents The Vow from Hiroshima - In Person
DESCRIPTION:Join our friends\, EngageAsia at The Aligned Center as they host a special in-person event featuring a screening of the powerful documentary\, The Vow from Hiroshima.   Following the screening\, stick around for a thought-provoking panel discussion with Susan Strickler (Director & Producer) and Mitchie Takeuchi (Writer & Producer). The event promises to be an enlightening and engaging experience. \nThe Vow From Hiroshima is a poignant documentary that delves into the life of Setsuko Thurlow\, a remarkable survivor of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. At just 13 years old when the bomb devastated her city in 1945\, Setsuko’s harrowing experience is vividly captured in this intimate portrait. The film chronicles her enduring friendship with second-generation survivor Mitchie Takeuchi\, offering a moving narrative of resilience and determination. \nSetsuko’s story is one of tragedy and triumph\, as she recalls being pulled from a burning building after the bomb’s impact\, unable to save her 27 classmates who perished in the flames. This pivotal moment shaped her lifelong commitment to ensuring that no one else would suffer the same horrific fate. \nThrough decades of tireless activism\, Setsuko’s journey culminates in a powerful milestone – the realization of her dream with the establishment of a Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. Setsuko made the acceptance speech in Oslo\, Norway. \nFunds raised will support both EngageAsia as well as the From Hiroshima to the Heartlands project that will enable the film to be shown in-person throughout the United States. Tickets are non-refundable as this is a philanthropic event to support our important charitable work. Attire is business casual. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER AND LEARN MORE
