This is a 2-day workshop, taking place Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th, 10am-5pm both days.
Body reading, or somato-typology, is a useful tool for understanding the human organism and the integration of mind and body, psyche, soma, and spirit. Many models for “reading” bodies, constitution, and personality have been used throughout history, each with strengths and weaknesses.
In this 2-day workshop, Dr. Jeffrey Meyers, physician, yoga instructor, and acupuncturist, will explore the historical and experiential foundations of somato-typology—including the roles of awareness, embodiment, comparison, contrast, and figure-ground relationship–and how understanding these foundations may be useful for yoga students and instructors, body workers, somatic educators, those in helping professions, or anyone with an interest in further exploring the intricacies of the mind-body connection.
In this workshop we will review the historical and experiential foundations of reading bodies, and then look at a number of models of “body reading” including Ayurvedic, Occidental, and Oriental models.
A 3-step method—the “O-N-E” method—for developing skills in body reading will be presented. Through practicing the 3-step method using photographs and live examples, this workshop will offer new ways of seeing and assessing the body which will allow participants to work less and achieve more in their practice and teaching. This seminar is part of the Yoga “Master” Teacher Training class series.
