SUMMARY:Regenerative Connections™ Series (Workshop 2): Patterns that Connect and Disconnect
DESCRIPTION:Tara Bennett-Goleman and Daniel Goleman Present Patterns that Connect and Disconnect\nSeptember 28 & 29 (tw0-day workshop) \nWe invite you to join us as we explore ways ancient wisdom and modern psychology regenerates connections of all kinds.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur emotional habits can connect us or keep us at a distance from ourselves and others. When these habits activate we react to symbolic threats as though they were real – e.g.\, the fear of abandonment triggers exaggerated fearfulness and thoughts of losing someone. Even if they may not make rational sense\, these patterns have an emotional reality; understanding them can yield insights in our own and others’ vulnerabilities and help us respond with empathy\, understanding\, and caring. \nWhen we believe their skewed messages these habits can shape how we think\, feel\, act and relate. We can become aware of these learned emotional habits and their expression\, such as clinging or avoidance. When they act as invisible lenses\, they distort our view rather than letting us see ourselves and each other as we genuinely are. \nReparative interventions from ancient wisdom traditions and modern psychology can allow for insight and connection rather than confusion and reactivity. \nRegenerative qualities\, including insight\, equanimity and a warm and caring heart\, can lead us to an inner calm and wiser perspective\, even as we sense the signals of these emotional habits. We can embrace underlying unsettling feelings with care\, kindness\, and a non-judgmental awareness that can help to free our minds and hearts. \nIn addition to modern and ancient psychologies we will draw on findings from neuroscience\, in a combination of lecture\, discussion and experiences. \nThese include mapping these learned emotional habits and ways to sense their activation\, calm our reactivity\, and repatterning for healthier responses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Workshop 2 We Will Learn To:\n \n Widen the gap between emotional impulse and action\, to make wiser choices \n Transform emotional patterns that separate into ones that connect \n Increase clarity and empathic understanding \n Allow for transformative insights into our habits of mind and heart. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more and register HERE. \n  \nWorkshop Series Schedule\n \nThe Arts\, Science and Practice of Meditation\nJune 29\, 2024 \nPatterns that Connect and Disconnect\nSeptember 28 and 29 \nWidening the Circle of Caring\nNovember 16 and 17

SUMMARY:Regenerative Connections™ Series (Workshop 1): The Arts\, Science\, and Practice of Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Tara Bennett-Goleman and Daniel Goleman Present The Arts\, Science\, and Practice of Meditation\nJune 29 (One Day Workshop) \nWe invite you to join us as we explore ways ancient wisdom and modern psychology regenerates connections of all kinds.\n\n\n\n\n\nRegenerating natural qualities of mind and heart can lead to a growing confidence in our inner resources. This one-day\, in-person\, workshop on meditation can be taken as a stand-alone session\, or as the first in the Regenerative Connections™ series\, which lays fertile ground for nurturing connection in relationships of all kinds – starting with ourselves and then expanding out to the interpersonal\, the collective\, and the natural world. \nThere is limited space if this is taken as a stand alone session. This meditation session is also a prerequisite for the next 2 workshops for those attending the whole series. \nWe will give instructions in four kinds of meditation: one-pointedness\, discerning insight\, mindful walking\, and compassion. \nAny of these methods can be used daily by those who are beginning meditation\, or as a refresher for more experienced meditators\, as well as an innovative lens on the expressions of meditative awareness in everyday life. \nMeditation regenerates qualities that can transform negative qualities to positive ones\, including greater focus\, insight\, equanimity\, compassion\, presence and resilience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIncluded in the Workshop \n The ways meditative arts such as Japanese flower arranging emphasize learning from symbolic teachings of nature and our inner awareness \n The neuroscience of meditation and of connection\, its psychological benefits and brain changes \n Reflections on phase transitions in nature\, in human nature – and their interconnection \n Connecting to the part of the mind that can see more clearly \n Tuning into the natural world in mindful walks in nearby Hudson River parks. \n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more and register HERE.

SUMMARY:Open House Meditation (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Open House Meditation Gathering hosted by the Westchester Mediation Center \n\n\nLed by Gene Bobker\, Charles Olson\, and WMC staff\nSundays from 10 – 12 pm ET – No meeting on January 21st due to WMC annual retreat.\nDrop-ins welcome!\nCost: By donation (recommended $10 per meeting).*\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease join us on Sunday mornings for a community gathering involving meditation practice\, discussion\, and readings. We gather to meditate for two 20-minute sessions with a walk and/or stretch in between\, then listen to an inspiring reading\, and have a group discussion. This program is open to everyone. No registration is required. No experience is needed. Guidance on the technique of meditation is available to anyone interested or new to practice. \nThe theme for Winter/Spring 2024 is Taking the Leap: Freeing Ourselves from Old Habits and Fears. When life’s events challenge us\, we frequently default to old habits and emotional states. Meditation helps us discover that while we will never be able to completely control our world\, we can train our minds to meet and accept life just as it is\, in the present moment. Pema Chodron’s book is about awakening the essential qualities of natural intelligence\, natural warmth\, and natural openness that help us to take a bold leap toward a new way of living—one that will bring about positive transformation for ourselves and for our troubled world. Meditation guides us to meet our minds\, embrace the fullness of our experience\, and live a wholehearted life. \n\nMeditation instruction (for those that are brand new to meditation or need a refresher) is available\, if needed.\nCost of attendance is by donation. Recommended donation is $10 per meeting\nListen to past Sunday Dharma Talks here. Check out our guest speakers here.
