About Us
Our Story
The Aligned Center is situated on the banks of the Hudson River in Irvington, NY in the historic Lord & Burnham building--a perfect location for our classes and community. We think of The Aligned Center as a kind of greenhouse where we cultivate awareness, ideas and practices that grow truth, beauty, goodness, true wealth and positive change in our lives, families and communities.
When we discovered that the Lord & Burnham company has been designing greenhouses since 1849 (including the original US Botanic Garden, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and the Golden Gate Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco), we knew that we were truly home.
Founder Matt Ludmer created The Aligned Center after a 30-year career on Wall Street as a wealth manager and Director at Morgan Stanley.
While serving the financial needs of his clients, Matt also pursued his lifelong passions for meditation as a student of Tibetan Buddhist master Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the teachings of nondual Judaism and the view of Integral Theory as defined by philosopher Ken Wilber.
Matt’s boots-on-the-ground expertise guiding clients through the ebbs and flows of global financial markets and his insights gained from decades-long spiritual studies and meditation practice evolved into his redefinition of wealth. Compelled by a vision to support people to achieve true wealth and thrive in all dimensions of their lives, Matt created The Aligned Center in 2016. Our community has been growing in leaps and bounds ever since.
Aligned Living
At the very heart of our mission at The Aligned Center is our commitment to Aligned Living—an invitation to thrive in all dimensions of our lives.
OUT OF BALANCE: Who doesn’t know the feeling of working hard for success--be it financial, career, parenting or changing the world--only to find ourselves exhausted, fragmented, lonely and disillusioned? The demands and pace of modern life can be relentless. And many of us tend to focus on developing one key area of our lives, while often ignoring others.
It could be that we are driven to achieve, for example, but feel disconnected from a sense of community. We may have a devoted meditation practice, but no idea how to manage our finances. Maybe we give ourselves to helping others, but make no time for ourselves. Or perhaps we have a wealth of knowledge about our specialized area of expertise, but only have a vague sense of other systems--politics, finance, medicine, education, culture, the environment, for example--and how we fit into the world at large.
THE FOUR QUADRANTS: At The Aligned Center, our model for Aligned Living is inspired by a Four Quadrant framework used in Ken Wilber’s Integral philosophy that represents four dimensions of our experience--individual inner and outer experience, and collective inner and outer experience.
Our Four Quadrant model includes Mind-Body Awareness, Work & Wealth Abundance, Heartfelt Community and the Knowledge of Systems.
In other words, Aligned Living means bringing awareness to our inner experience, as expressed in our outer world, in relation to our family, friends, neighbors and colleagues and as part of our place in the global community.
When we bring awareness to all dimensions of our lives, we become awake, fulfilled, connected and joyous. We call this finding, growing and living from our personal aligned center. We call this Aligned Living.
With our world in the midst of seismic shifts, Aligned Living allows us to foster positive change for ourselves, our families and the world.
