On Sunday mornings the Westchester Meditation Center will host a community gathering involving meditation practice, readings, and discussion. The theme of this season of Open House is How to Meditate, inspired by Pema Chodron’s book, How to Meditate: A Practical Guide to Making Friends with Your Mind.
Why meditate? Let’s explore.
When situations bother us we always feel we need to change the situation to improve our circumstances. But does that really work? How many situations must we change to achieve the level of comfort we aspire to? We will never fully be able to restrain external phenomena, but we can restrain our minds. Indeed, working with our mind is the only means through which we’ll actually find harmony and contentment with the world that we live in.
Meditation provides a golden key to address this yearning. During our winter open house, we will review chapter by chapter Pema Chodron’s book, How to Meditation, which provides a step-by-step guide to how we can meet and openly relate with our mind, embrace the fullness of our experience, and live a wholehearted life.
At each gathering, you will practice for two sessions with walking meditation in between, share reading and have a group discussion.
